Organisers of the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash understand that patrons who couldn’t arrive at the festival site safely due to torrential rain are feeling disappointed about missing out on this year’s event.

So, while the show is still going on, the Mundi Mundi Bash has rallied to host a series of free, pop-up concerts in the municipalities of Broken Hill and Silverton for those who missed out.

The excitement began on Wednesday (19 August), when Furnace & the Fundamentals performed at the Palace Hotel. Another four performances were confirmed, with more to come.

Last night, Shane Howard, Troy Cassar-Daley and Chocolate Starfish’s Adam Thompson took over the Silverton Hotel, followed by a gig featuring Howard and Cassar-Daley at the Palace Hotel later that night.

Tonight, the Hot Potato Band takes over the Palace Hotel, which also becomes the place to be when Fanny Lumsden performs tomorrow night (22 August).

“It was devastating to not be able to get everyone into site because of the ground condition, and we really wanted to do something for the people we couldn’t get onto our festival site,” said Greg Donovan, Founder of the Mundi Mundi Bash and Managing Director of the Outback Music Festival Group.

Donovan continued, “We have 10,000 people out here enjoying the full event line-up, but there were thousands we couldn’t get in despite our best efforts.

“We’ve been blown away by how the performers have jumped in to help us give those who couldn’t make it into site a taste of what we had planned for them out here. Every one of the pop-up gigs has been supported by the artists who are all giving their time for free.

“We’re so grateful for their incredible support, but more importantly we know Bash patrons are loving it. Furnace’s gig last night went off, with more than 1,000 people flocking to the Palace and lifting the roof. And they stayed and partied till 3 am.”

Thompson added, “Musicians are always the first responders when a challenging situation arises. When disappointment is caused by something completely out of everyone’s control, you pitch in. We all pitch in, and we do what we can.

“If people can’t get to the Bash, then let’s take the Bash to the people. We’re really looking forward to getting out there, playing some music and bringing a bit of joy to the community.”

The pop-up concerts are offering patrons who missed out but remain camped in or around Broken Hill – as well as locals – the chance to experience the spirit of the Bash in town.

Despite being hampered by extreme weather conditions, the Mundi Mundi Bash has gone on, hosting 10,000 punters on its festival site. Howard, Mi-Sex, Cassar-Daley, Jessica Mauboy, Leo Sayer, The Teskey Brothers, Furnace & the Fundamentals and many others are ready to take to the stage.
