As Emily Lubitz readies herself for one of the biggest years in her career to date, the acclaimed musician has unveiled Big Time, the first single from her forthcoming debut album.
Titled Big Time, the single is Lubitz’ first new track since the release of 2022’s Begin Again EP. Previously finding fame as the vocalist for Naarm/Melbourne-based trio Tinpan Orange, Lubitz went solo with the well-received EP, giving fans a taste of what is to come in the future.
Now, with her debut album under her belt and ready to be welcomed into the world in a few months, Lubitz has shared Big Time as a preview of what the record contains.
Backed with a decidedly country-tinged approach, Big Time sees Lubitz delivering a tongue-in-cheek approach to success and fame as she sings of a small town girl with a voice that brings cowboys to their knees.
Though her promised fame and fortune have been elusive and she finds herself singing in local bars, the very notion of her raw talent still managing to move a room full of people begs the question; what is the big time anyway?
‘Sometimes I write a song about a character, and she’;s definitely someone else, but in so many ways, she’s me,” Lubitz explains. “Or maybe she’s someone who I aspire to be. Either way, I care for her a lot.”

The track also comes accompanied by a Hannah Croft-directed video which helps to paint a visual story alongside the track, offering a scrapbook-styled music video with hints of old Western movies.
Big Time is set to be officially released on Lubitz’ debut album Two Black Horses, which arrives on July 18th. Sounding like an amalgamation of old Hollywood movies starring musical icons such as Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, and even Phoebe Bridgers, it’s a record which focuses on themes of forbidden love, immigration, death, loss and growing older with love and defiance.
Produced alongside husband and long-time collaborator, Harry James Angus, it’s a collection of songs that speak to heartache, heritage, and hope, and is a long-awaited release for the acclaimed artist.
While Lubitz is officially releasing Big Time on Wednesday, April 23rd, she’ll be hitting the road across July, August, and September for a run of shows throughout the eastern portion of Australia. Alongside appearances at the Mullum Roots Festival and support slots for Ash Grunwald, headline performances from Lubitz will be on offer for her legions of excited fans across the country.
