The music world is in mourning, following the devastating news that Dolly Parton has passed away at the age of 80.

An icon in every sense of the word, Parton was an inspiration for country music artists as well as musicians from all other genres. In addition to her expansive music career, she was a philanthropist and actor, whose impact could be felt from every corner of the globe.

In a tribute from The Music’s Liz Giuffre, she reminded us all:

Parton has been in the music industry for almost as long as there has been a music industry.

And not just that, she has MADE the industry—ensuring that female singer-songwriters have a clear path to success; ensuring that fans are respected across genre, era, generation and gender lines; and making millions, only to give it away again.

Reading programmes for children, inspired by her father who made a life for his family of 12 while remaining illiterate for his whole life? Yes, she did, via the Imagination Library. And at her request, in lieu of flowers, donations for more books, please.

Giuffre isn’t the only one paying tribute to a music legend. Stars across all genres, from Reba McEntire to Eminem to Jack White, are all sharing appreciation for a highly influential woman.

In a post shared to social media, rapper Eminem unveiled the sweet letter Dolly wrote to him upon his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – both were inducted in 2022. Eminem expressed regret that the pair never met, but said that it meant a lot to receive that letter.

Reba McEntire wrote that there will “never ever be another you” about Parton, and “We will remember and cherish every memory and every note you ever played and sang.”

Elsewhere, rocker Jack White proclaimed that Parton has received “instant sainthood.”

Other musicians, such as Paul McCartney, Fanny Lumsden, Kylie Minogue, Sharon den Adel from the heavy metal band Within Temptation, and many more have paid tribute to Dolly, with Lumsden thanking her for “all you did for the world.”

Kylie Minogue commented on the post about Parton’s passing with a series of floating star emojis; actress Sarah Michelle Gellar described her as “truly the greatest of all time,” rock band Garbage described the news as “devastating,” and pop star Robyn wrote “So thankful you were here.”
