Jellyroll Band Drops Trademark Lawsuit Against Jelly Roll

A wedding band, Jellyroll Band, has dropped its trademark lawsuit against Jelly Roll, one of the most popular stars of country music, stating that they’d reached a settlement with the singer.

Back in April, Philly wedding band Jellyroll Band sued the Need A Favor singer for trademark infringement.

Jellyroll founder Kurt Titchenell accused Jelly Roll (real name Jason DeFord) of trademark infringement and claimed that due to the singer’s increased popularity over the last year, it’s become difficult for potential clients to find the wedding band on the internet.

Titchenell stated that the band had been using the Jellyroll name since 1980. In the court documents, Titchenell’s lawyers wrote: “Prior to the defendant’s recent rise in notoriety, a search of the name of Jellyroll … returned references to the plaintiff.

“Now, any such search on Google returns multiple references to [the] defendant, perhaps as many as 18-20 references, before any reference to plaintiff’s entertainment dance band known as Jellyroll can be found.”

Titchenell’s attorneys reportedly sent a cease-and-desist notice to Jelly Roll and had “several conversations” with the star’s team over the trademark issue. The matter came to an end this week.

Billboard reports that on Tuesday (9 July), Titchenell agreed to permanently drop the lawsuit against Jelly Roll.

According to the publication, Titchenell stated that he “settled” the lawsuit against Jelly Roll after they’d reached an “amicable agreement”. Court records, however, don’t confirm that the lawsuit has been dropped due to an agreement, meaning that Jelly Roll’s lawyers didn’t sign the filing, and Titchenell dropped the case voluntarily.

Titchenell’s statement continued, “We look forward to our continued use of the name, Jellyroll Band, in connection with our party band business.”

Last month, Jelly Roll released his new single, I Am Not Okay, after premiering it on the finale of The Voice US.

Written by Jelly Roll, he said about the song on Instagram, “I Am Not Okay is out now. For everyone going through something—it’s okay to not be okay, but its all gonna be alright!”

Jelly Roll might also release a collaborative track with Kane Brown soon, with the latter commenting that they’d worked on a “powerful” new song.
