Dolly PartonIt’s not the news anyone wanted, but Dolly Parton is officially putting her live performances on hold as she focuses on her health, and she’s handling it exactly how you’d expect: with honesty, humour, and a whole lot of grace.
“My immune system and my digestive system got all out of whack.” says Parton.
The 80 year old icon has cancelled her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, which had already been postponed once from late 2025 to September 2026. This latest update confirms she won’t be returning to the stage just yet, citing ongoing health challenges that still need time and attention.
In a message to fans, Parton explained that while she’s “responding really well to meds and treatments,” she’s not quite at the level needed to perform. The biggest issue right now? Side effects from those treatments, particularly dizziness, which makes the physical demands of a full-scale show a bit too risky.
“I can’t be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five inch heels, and you know that I’m going to be wearing them. Not to mention all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big …. Uh personality.” she laughs.

Behind the scenes, it’s been a mix of health hurdles. Parton has been dealing with immune and digestive system issues over the past few years, alongside earlier complications linked to kidney stones. The good news is that everything she’s facing is considered treatable and she’s steadily improving.
While the Vegas shows would have marked her first major live run since her Pure & Simple tour back in 2016, this isn’t a full step back from the spotlight. Parton is still actively working especially on her upcoming Broadway project, Dolly: A True Original Musical, which is set to debut in New York later this year.
If anything, Parton’s message is pretty clear: she’s not done, she’s just not rushing it.
