Fanny LumsdenFanny Lumsden is done apologising.
The Australian country favourite has released Difficult Woman, the first taste of her forthcoming studio album, and it's a track that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.
Recorded live in a single take with nothing more than Lumsden and her guitar, Difficult Woman strips everything back to let the song's message take centre stage.
Raw, honest and entirely unapologetic, it's a statement piece from an artist who has never been afraid to tell the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.
At the heart of the song is a sentiment that many women will immediately recognise.
As Lumsden explains, "I know what I want, I say it kindly and that makes me a difficult woman".
The track first started gaining traction after Lumsden shared a snippet online back in March, with fans quickly connecting to its message. According to the singer, it wasn't even intended to be released as a single.
Announcing the song's arrival on Instagram, she wrote: "surprise - difficult woman is out today. After releasing a snippet back in March, what wasn't meant to be shared as a single at all… is out now. Pls tag a ‘difficult woman’ below."

The release arrives amid a huge year for Lumsden. Earlier this year she embarked on her first national capital city headline tour before heading overseas for a UK headline run.
More recently, she unveiled her upcoming ONLY FANS tour, an intimate solo experience that promises equal parts concert, storytelling session and love letter to the communities that shaped her.
If Difficult Woman is the first glimpse of what's to come from Lumsden's next album, fans can expect an artist who is leaning even further into authenticity. No frills, no filters and no interest in making herself smaller to fit anyone else's expectations.
