It’s there that Cooper Alan also experienced his rapid growth and rise to attention. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the American singer-songwriter built a career in country music – and amassed a community – by sharing mashups online.
At first, he performed parts of cover songs and snippets of original tracks on TikTok and Instagram. There was nowhere to hide: just himself and an acoustic guitar.
Things changed in May 2020 when, responding to his mum’s call of an artist’s name every seven seconds, Alan would immediately jump in and play their songs. He’d share renditions of tracks by Eric Church, The Chicks, Lizzo, and many others.
In December 2020, he took on his first mashup challenge, combining Smash Mouth’s All Star with seven other songs. He went on to “countrify” hits across all genres.
Now, Cooper Alan is a major country artist who tours, performs at festivals, and records his own music. Next month, he returns to Australia to perform at Strummingbird Festival.
