“It’s going to be song after song after song, some real, some fun, maybe one or two average ones, who knows,”

More Seaforth More Seaforth

Mitch Thompson was one half of Aussie country-pop duo Seaforth, but now is Seaforth and he’s officially back in the saddle. He’s got a new single, a fresh label deal, and a wedding on the way to just to throw a little more chaos into the mix; but still has the heart, humour, and hooks Seaforth fans know and love.

“It’s been a whirlwind of a year,” Thompson tells us, grinning in classic Seaforth fashion. “But I’m finally in a good place again. New song’s out, I’ve signed with ABC Music, and I’m getting married in two months… so yeah, it’s a vibe.”

After a quieter 12 months, Thompson is reintroducing Seaforth, this time solo but with a new chapter that still feels familiar. “It’s always been a dream to properly build something back home in Australia,” he says. “I’ve come home every year to see family, but I never gave the music side the full attention it deserved. That’s changing now.”

The debut of Her and My Hometown kicks off the lover era and we mean that literally. “It’s about Cece [his fiancée], my family, and the northern beaches. These two worlds shaped who I am. It felt like the perfect reintroduction,” Thomson explains. “It’s also the first song I’ve ever produced myself, which was a learning curve… but somehow I survived.”

And what about Tom Jordan, the other half of Seaforth? “We’re sweet,” Thomson confirms. “He’s my best man. Literally. At the wedding. Nothing weird. He’s still doing amazing stuff, and we’ll always be creating in some capacity.”

Musically, Thompson says he’s leaning further into the organic, heartfelt side of country-pop while still leaving room for the fun, feel-good bangers Seaforth is known for. “It’s still Seaforth, just through a slightly different lens. There’ll be more acoustic textures, more personal stories, but I’m not about to go full banjo ballad mode either. That’s kind of the beauty of doing this solo for now, I can just follow the music wherever it goes.”

As for what’s next: “It’s going to be song after song after song, some real, some fun, maybe one or two average ones, who knows,” he laughs. “Then we’re aiming for a full record next year and getting back on the road in Aus. It’s time.”

So whether you’re a longtime fan or just figuring out who “the guy from Seaforth” is, Mitch Thomson has one message: “Hi, I’m Seaforth. I’m still figuring out how to say that with a straight face.”
