Josh Setterfield has shared some shock news with fans, revealing that he’s been diagnosed with skin cancer – melanoma – and has had surgery to remove the tumour.
In a video posted to social media, the Australian country artist explained why he’s been quiet online over the last few weeks.
Three weeks ago, Setterfield learned that he has cancer. Sharing more details, he said, “It was a stage two melanoma on my back. However, on a second opinion from another doctor, they thought it was a lot more serious than that.”
From there, Setterfield was rushed to get checked and get surgery booked. Revealing that he has scars from surgery on his side and his back, he continued, “It’s been a pretty wild ride and a big shock. It’s terrifying… A lot of people have been asking what they can do to help, and the biggest thing you can do is go and get checked. Get your skin checked.
“It’s been a pretty emotional time, and I apologise that I’ve been a little bit quiet,” Setterfield said.
“At the moment, we’re waiting to see the results that come back and see if it’s spread further… I’m in a lot of pain right now; I can’t really move this arm. Hoping to be okay, waiting for these test results to come back to make sure it hasn’t gone any further.”

Josh Setterfield recently released his new EP, FALL, which is the companion release to his EP RISE.
“I’ve wanted to do this back-to-back thing for a little while,” Setterfield told Countrytown in a recent interview. “And it’s kind of just in the era of… albums are great, but people’s attention spans are so short. So, we kind of did an album but split it across two.”
Discussing his take on “hell-raising country” (or heavy country) across the new EP, Setterfield added, “There is an Australian country sound, but there’s no one really doing a heavy sound. Don’t get me wrong, there are rocky country acts, but if there is more of it, I would love to hear.”
