"For him to use the song to discuss the other side of what could’ve happened if he would’ve allowed his demons to win brought me to tears..."

Earlier this week, Eminem shared the tracklist to his highly anticipated new album, The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), ahead of its release yesterday (12 July). He surprised fans with the last song on the album, which features Jelly Roll.
The sole non-rap feature on Eminem’s new album, Jelly Roll appears on Somebody Save Me via a sample of Save Me. The melodic final track on the LP marks the end of the rapper’s alter-ego’s journey through inner turmoil and redemption.
An exploration of the rapper’s alter-ego, Somebody Save Me follows Eminem’s previous addiction to prescription medication that almost led him to overdose in 2007. Apologising for not being around for his children, the song notably revisits themes from Arose, a track that featured on the rapper’s album Revival.
Taking to Instagram today (13 July), Jelly Roll discussed the impact of featuring on Somebody Save Me alongside a photo of himself and Eminem.

Calling Eminem his “childhood hero”, Jelly Roll wrote in an emotional post:
I always say my childhood hero’s lived somewhere between Willie Nelson and Eminem. As a teenager (and still today) I could recite every song on the Slim Shady album, the Marshal Mathers album and the Eminem show. When I bonded out of jail at 17 years old and was sneaking into cyphers and battles in Nashville they would also play the “lose yourself” beat when I came out on stage at the freestyle battles. I related to every word Eminem wrote. I understand him and felt like he understood me, which was rare cause I spent most of my life feeling misunderstood.
So you can imagine how I felt when I got that the call that Eminem would be sampling my song “Save Me” on his new album. And for him to use the song to discuss the other side of what could’ve happened if he would’ve allowed his demons to win brought me to tears. If you haven’t heard it yet , check out “Somebody Save Me” on Eminem’s new album “the death of slim shady” special shout out to [Eminem’s manager] Paul Rosenberg , you’ve been nothing but kind to me and treated me like family and gave me opportunities I didn’t deserve, forever grateful.
Last month, Jelly Roll released his new single, I Am Not Okay, after premiering it on the finale of The Voice US.
Written by Jelly Roll, he said about the song on Instagram, “I Am Not Okay is out now. For everyone going through something—it’s okay to not be okay, but its all gonna be alright!”
