Jelly Roll’s debut Australian tour last month occurred after years of waiting and a buildup of anticipation. And while fans were delighted to have him on our shores, it wasn’t such an easy trip for the singer.

In a recent interview with the Australian-based No Filter with Kate Langbroek podcast, the Liar singer opened up about the mental and physical tolls of touring on the other side of the globe. Jelly Roll revealed that he was feeling anxious, so much so that the trip to Australia “fucked up” his stomach.

In addition to the stomach problems, Jelly Roll explained that the tour setup, which was conducted without buses, left him feeling “super isolated.”

“I’m doing the worst mentally I’ve done in a long time,” Jelly Roll said when he was asked about his coping mechanisms while on the road.

He added, “It’s really hitting me that I’m really far from home, like in an anxious way. This trip over here fucked my stomach up. It fucked my stomach up in a way my stomach hasn’t been fucked up in a year or two.”

Explaining that he felt “super isolated” while touring in Australia, he concluded, “I don’t like it. I’m having to spend a lot of time in my hotel room by myself, just in my head… I’m not having fun. I want to go home.”

Australian fans likely already knew that the tour wasn’t all sunshine and roses. While in Sydney, Jelly Roll called out a Louis Vuitton store that he claimed looked at him like a “criminal.”

“Hey man, the Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were finna come in and rob that place,” he said, via his Instagram Stories. “I have never been looked at more like a criminal. Listen, the last time I was looked at like a criminal this bad… I was an actual criminal this bad.”

Jelly Roll ended up cancelling the last show of the tour, The Outerfields at Western Springs, New Zealand, earlier this month due to illness.

While the itinerary was undoubtedly rough on the singer, Jelly Roll’s first Australian tour was nothing short of a massive success.

It was packed with near sold-out arena shows, surprise collaborations, and genuine connections with fans and fellow artists. From naming a baby quokka Loretta to sharing the stage twice with Kaylee Bell, he embraced every part of the Australian and New Zealand experience.
