Back in March, the Hands Up hitmaker appeared in an interview with Y’all Access Radio’s Kelly Sutton while he was backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. But the footage was only shared on social media this week (13 September).
In the interview, Jelly Roll said his path in life could stay in music, or he could be driven to give back to the community.
“Everything that Jason [DeFord] or Jelly Roll wanted to do in the music business, I’ve done now, so at this point, I really need to go talk to God and see if he wants me to stick around, or what he wants me to do next,” the American country star shared.
He added, “If God tells me to go work at a homeless shelter in Paducah, Ky., I’m outta here… y’all will never see me again, and I’ll be working at a… he gave me everything I ever wanted, man — Grammys, ACMs, CMAs, I’m a member of the Grand Ole Opry, like God has done it.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Jelly Roll opened up about his spirituality.
“I just gotta go do a little bit of work on myself to make sure that I’m all the way ready,” he said. “I’m completely sober, though. I’m clear-headed, and I’m deep in therapy, I’m deep in my Bible, but I think that I gotta separate from the chaos of the business for me to really hear what God wants for me to do next.”
It’s been a roller coaster year for Jelly Roll. In March, he became a member of the Grand Ole Opry, but three months later, news broke that he and his wife, Bunnie Xo, had filed for divorce. He’s since addressed the divorce on stage, describing Bunnie as his “best friend.”
In other news, Jelly Roll announced a hiatus from touring last month and made headlines for filming a new music video at San Quentin Prison, appearing in the new WWE 2K26 video game, and for mocking US President Donald Trump while hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live.
