Charley CrockettTexas musician Charley Crockett has responded to the recent controversy which saw self-proclaimed “Satanic doo-wop” duo Twin Temple removed from the line-up of his upcoming concerts.
Taking to Instagram recently, Twin Temple named Crockett and alleged that they were removed from his upcoming shows due to their “Satanic imagery.”
“Unfortunately, that means we will not be able to perform for you next week as planned,” they continued. “We are really disappointed as we were looking forward to getting back out and seeing you, and also what it meant as far as bringing different types of people and music lovers together.
“We are sorry to everyone who was planning to see us. We’re grateful for your support, not only of Twin Temple, but more importantly of artistic freedom. HAIL SATAN!”
In response to the controversy, Jack White entered the conversation, offering the group a spot supporting him at his own show at the Hollywood Palladium September. “Let me know,” he wrote. “Get in front of me Satan!”
Responding to Twin Temple’s removal from the line-up, Crockett told Rolling Stone via a representative that “I thought they were like Black Sabbath, but they ain’t. Not today, Satan.”
In the wake of the controversy, Crockett shared a number of posts to social media referencing the incident.

Alongside a picture of Johnny Cash soundtracked by the song Beat The Devil, Crockett wrote, “If they did it to Jesus, imagine what they’ll do to you,” before another post seemingly referenced White as he wrote “FUCK TRUMP, FUCK EPSTEIN, BUT HAIL SATAN? NOT ME JACK.”
On Saturday, Crockett shared a longer post addressing the issue, opening with the blunt phrasing, “I won’t conform and I’m not sorry.”
“There are many things I’ve done in my life to apologize for but this ain’t one of them,” he continued. “I might wake up at 1pm on the back of that bus and find out that the opener ain’t working for me that night. Tough luck. Life is hard. This ain’t no temp agency. Get to stepping.”
The lengthy post continued:
Shit you might get you a life changing gig just by standing next to me. That’s magic. Im not gonna advertise my charity out here because as soon as you do, it ain’t nothing but self promotion. I’m not on the left. I’m not on the right. I’m on the road, and that’s a hard way to go. Believe me, the would kill you bronc. (sic)
I don’t give a damn whether you think I’m right or wrong. They say love your struggle. I say love the strength the creator gave you to overcome your struggle. Dont believe in any kind of spiritual power? I’m sorry to hear that. God is the fabric that ties all life together. No need to even define or institutionalize it.
The entertainment business is chock full of shameless exhibitionists possessed by the desire to be famous and have the public’s adoration. I swear they’d kill a relative. I see them everywhere. Been betrayed by many. Always stricken by the crack smoke and just dying to get ahead.
I love what I do and I’m grateful for the privilege every minute, and if everybody disappears I’ll go back to the street corner where I started.
Hell sometimes I dream about it. Shout out to Angel in New Orleans who told me that if you wanna get high boy you got to start down low. I’ve found that about the only help you get out here in this business is when they lower the box.
A post shared later included a quote attributed to Marlon Brando, which seemingly referenced the situation:
I’ve encountered many people over the years who believe that self interest is the thing always at work underneath everything. These people dismiss the idea of true belief. I feel sorry for them.
Further posts have been shared by Crockett since, all of which appear to have some relation to the Twin Temple incident.
This includes one which features the lyrics to his song Solitary Road, and one featuring a famous quote from the film Cool Hand Luke, which states, “What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate. Some men, you just can’t reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it.”
For their part, save for accepting White’s offer, Twin Temple have not commented publicly on the situation since their removal from Crockett’s line-up.
