James Johnston Leaks His Own Epic New Song

James Johnston has shared a teaser and new announcement regarding his upcoming single, Worth Its Weight In Gold, which will drop on streaming services tomorrow.
“This song has always meant a hell of a lot to me, so I’ve decided I want you to have it early,” Johnston wrote on Facebook last night (6 September). “WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD is coming out this Friday‼️
“This was a decision I made after having so many people reach out after hearing it live. I wanted you to have it before the album so we can sing it together on TOUR! I can’t wait for you to hear it!”
In the teaser clip, Johnston walks beside a barn with an epic-sounding backdrop behind him, singing, “The real estate man came around today / Must’ve heard I was in town for grandad’s estate”.
Telling a story more than selling a song, Worth Its Weight In Gold builds until Johnston commands, “So I sat him down, and I set him straight / Don’t show up in your suit trying to spend your money!”

Last month, James Johnston announced that his debut album, Raised Like That, would arrive with 20 tracks on Friday, 29 September.

Johnston has a habit of releasing songs early (or whenever he wants to). After teasing an upcoming collaboration with fellow Aussies Zac & George in July, Johnston dropped the single Some Things Never Change.
Led by an acoustic guitar, Johnston’s signature drawl and the harmonies of Zac & George in the second verse, Some Things Never Change takes on a life of its own once the chorus lands.
Talking about the co-writing session with the lads in Nashville, Johnston explained, “Listening back to the demo on the plane ride home, I knew we had captured something special.
“I wanted to record and release it in a way I had never seen anyone do before,” he added in a press release, taking the co-write with Zac & George and then getting them on board for the final recording.
