Paramore front woman Hayley Williams has released a surprise solo album featuring 17 new tracks, first dropped exclusively on her website before arriving on streaming platforms. Though the album remains officially untitled, fans have dubbed it Ego.
One track, in particular, Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party (EDAABP) is making waves for its provocative opening line:
“I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar
No use shootin’ for the moon, no use chasing waterfalls”
In a recent interview with Stereogum, Williams was asked if she had a favourite artist-owned bar on Broadway. Her response was clear: “Oh no, there’s not. There’s really no good ones. I don’t have one. Pass. Hard pass to all of them.” When asked if she had a least favourite, she didn’t hesitate: “Morgan Wallen’s.”
@stereogum “I'll be the biggest star at this racist country singer's bar,” Hayley Williams sings on her excellent new song “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party.” Maybe you are wondering what Hayley’s favorite racist country singer’s bar is? Our Nashville nightlife correspondent’s friend Shaad was wondering too. @Paramore @The Lipstick Lounge #HayleyWilliams #Nashville #nightlife #LipstickLounge #countrymusic #MorganWallen #LGBTQ #Paramore

She also criticised the overall trend of celebrity branded venues, calling them “terrible” and overly commercialised, adding “I have a lot of beef with all of them.”
While Paramore continues to tour and release music, Williams’ solo material has leaned increasingly into cultural and political commentary, EDAABP being the latest example to spark discussion in both the country and alt-pop worlds.
