Blake Shelton brings the hillbilly swagger back in full force with his fiery new album For Recreational Use Only out today.

More Blake Shelton More Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton is trading in his tractor for a tour bus again, and he’s doing it with a twang. The country superstar just dropped his first album in four years, For Recreational Use Only, and it’s every bit the bold, cheeky, emotionally-charged return fans have been hoping for.

The 12-track record is packed with everything from boot-stomping anthems to brooding ballads and Southern pride. Shelton describes it as a journey through love, loss, and “unapologetic hillbilly swagger” which, frankly, sounds like the most Blake Shelton saying ever.

Lead single Texas has already hit No. 1, making it his 29th chart-topper. Driven by eerie undertones and a chorus built to belt, it walks the line between Ronnie Milsap and a contemporary country sound, it’s clear Shelton hasn’t lost his magic touch. The song also marked his debut with a new label, BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, following a long run with his former home.

The album kicks off with the raucous Stay Country or Die Tryin’, a loud and proud anthem for anyone who prefers dirt roads to city lights. According to Shelton, it’s a little bit God’s Country, a little bit Ol’ Red, and a whole lot of fun to play live.

Elsewhere on the album, Shelton flexes his emotional range with Let Him In Anyway, a haunting ballad co-written by HARDY that he calls one of the most powerful recordings of his career. There’s also room for heart and harmony: three duets bring together Shelton and some key figures in his life, including Gwen Stefani, Craig Morgan, and John Anderson.

After briefly stepping back from music and TV, Shelton says the fire’s been reignited and For Recreational Use Only is proof. Equal parts rowdy and reflective, it’s the sound of an artist who’s been through it, come back stronger, and still knows how to throw down a country hook with the best of them.
