'Australian Idol' Final Three Goes Country

Last night’s Australian Idol saw three potential idols eliminated from the competition, revealing its three singers heading for next week's two-part finale.

This year, Australian Idol has embraced country music like it never has, sending Rockhampton singer Denvah Baker-Moller (who we know best mononymously as Denvah) and Northern Rivers’ own Dylan Wright (of Sons Of Atticus) to the finale with outstanding Broome singer Amy Reeves.

Another country singer, Trent Richardson, made it to the top six. He sadly departed the show last night alongside Ivana Ilic and Isaac McCallum.

The live final of this year’s season of Australian Idol will air over two nights, playing at 7 pm on Sunday (24 March) and 7:30 pm on Monday (25 March) on Channel 7 and its streaming platform, 7plus. The winner of Australian Idol will take home a $100,000 cash prize and, importantly, a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

Denvah, Dylan Wright and Amy Reeves won’t be the only singers performing live on the Australian Idol stage in the coming days.

According to a TV Tonight report, special guests including Morgan Evans, OG Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem, judge Marcia Hines, Sam Fisher and Conrad Sewell are set to take the stage.

Last month, Countrytown pondered whether Australian Idol would deliver a country music winner this year. With the increase in popularity of the genre down under and the love shown to Denvah and Dylan Wright this season, it does seem likely.

In October, Denvah won the Groundwater Country Music Festival’s KIX-Start competition. Reacting to her win, she wrote on her Instagram Stories that she was “screaming, crying, throwing up” before thanking KIX Country and Groundwater Music Festival for the opportunity. Following her win, she released the single Do Without.

A few months earlier, she was crowned the NAB Gympie Music Muster Talent Search winner. As the winner, she took home an estimated $22,000, which includes career-building opportunities, mentoring, music equipment and a trip to Nashville.

In July 2022, Sad Songs by Sons Of Atticus was named Countrytown’s Song Of The Day. The track is a charming alt-country number that tells the story of a weary traveller whose only companions are the songs they sing to pass the time.
