Up and coming country star Kincade Stevens is rolling out a big visual moment for his latest single One Track Mind.

The track itself is a fast moving, burning track and the accompanying video leans into that same restless energy. Built around themes of focus, obsession and mental tunnel vision, One Track Mind captures what happens when everything else drops away and your brain locks onto a single idea, whether that’s for better or worse.

“This song is kind of an apology to everyone around me that my brain only has one direction,” Stevens explains. “When I get focused on one thing, everything else fades into background noise.”

That feeling drives the visuals too. Directed by Nathan Burney of Burning Pictures, the video was shot on location at the NSW Rail Museum, using the historic 3001 steam train which is more than 120 years old. The result is a cinematic clip that feels heavy, gritty and constantly in motion.

“I thought if we are going to make a video for this song there is no point doing anything half-arsed,” says Stevens. “I wanted to make something epic and exciting. After finding the location and meeting with Nathan and seeing his work I knew he would get us that cinematic look”.

The shoot itself was just as intense as the final product. With rain pouring down and limited time to capture key shots, the crew had to move fast.

“The shoot was kind of crazy. We had one take to get the shot of the train rolling past. It was pissing down rain. Feeling the energy of the whole crew and this massive train blowing steam was a huge thrill”.

One Track Mind was produced with the help of a stacked lineup of session players, including Grammy winning bluegrass musician Michael Cleveland, who brings a standout spark to the track’s instrumentation.

“One thing that was really exciting is I was able to get Michael Cleveland, who I consider to be the best fiddle player in the world, to play on this track.” says Stevens.

Stevens’ sound pulls from influences of classic country storytelling mixed with Americana grit and Australian rock. During the Covid lockdowns, he honed in on his craft and wrote the songs that would become his debut album The Defeatist. His latest release continues that thread, pairing traditional country emotion with an alt-country edge.
