Country-pop artist Ella Powell has released her latest single, Hate My Clothes, pairing emotional songwriting with a glossy, disco inspired country-pop sound.

The new track explores the everyday pressure to conform and the quiet self-editing many people experience in social situations, with Powell using a relatable, seemingly small moment to unpack larger feelings of insecurity and identity.

“Lately, I’ve noticed how easily we shrink ourselves and edit who we are just to fit in,” Powell said.

“‘Hate My Clothes’ came from sitting in that discomfort and being brutally honest about it. I wanted to capture this idea by drawing on a small, universal moment that we all experience but rarely talk about.”

Pulling influence from 70s disco while still sitting firmly within the modern country-pop space. The result is a track built equally for introspection and singalong moments.

The release marks another step forward for Powell, who has steadily emerged as one of Australia’s fastest-rising country-pop artists. Her songwriting often focuses on personal experiences ranging from self-doubt to resilience, and turning those into accessible, hook-driven songs.

Powell first broke through in 2019 after winning the People’s Choice Award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Her debut single Paper Town later earned her National Songwriter of the Year honours, helping launch a growing catalogue that has since gained editorial support across Spotify and Apple Music.

Her debut EP The End of the Beginning has now surpassed half a million streams across more than 80 countries, while recent single Passerby debuted as the third most downloaded song across all genres in Australia on release day.

Beyond streaming success, Powell has continued building a strong live reputation, performing at major events including the Deni Ute Muster alongside Kip Moore and Tyler Hubbard, as well as Sunset Sounds with Thirsty Merc and Kingswood. And last year, Powell returned to Tamworth as a Top 10 finalist in the 2025 Toyota Star Maker competition.

With more music and live shows planned throughout 2026, Hate My Clothes continues Powell’s upward momentum as she carves out her own lane in Australian country-pop.
