'Used' peaked at #14 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart.
Following on from the success of her previous singles and first new tunes in over 3 years – One That Got Award and Nothin' Special (which debuted at #3 on the iTunes Country Singles chart, racking up 150k streams), Sarah Leete returned in February with her first single for 2022. Used debuted at #39 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart, where it then peaked at an impressive #14.
Now, Countrytown has the honour of showcasing the music video in this exclusive premiere. Filmed at Gunnedah Autowreckers, the music video was directed by the award-winning Duncan Toombs from The Filmery.
Sarah says, “I worked with The Filmery on my first video back in 2017, and I was excited to be able to work with Duncan for the new single. We shot it as a performance style video on a HOT day in Gunnedah at the local auto wreckers. There was a fire there late last year, but in true creative fashion, Duncan made it look epic! We were inside a big shed surrounded by old cars and panels that looked like they hadn’t been touched in years. I think the used car aspect is pretty cool and fitting for the song, and I was really happy we could make this not too far from home, here in North West NSW.”
Produced by Michael Muchow at The Moon Room in Brisbane, Used shows us a rockier side of the singer-songwriter that we have not yet seen, with her song writing remaining front and centre taking us right into the moment where the penny drops, and she is left scratching her head.
Sarah adds, “Used is the song that takes you into where it was written, after an interaction with someone that has left you feeling blindsided and a bit icky. I have had this feeling a good handful of times in my life, be it relationships, friendships or professionally, and I dare say others can relate.”
Originally from the Central Coast, and now calling the small country town of Baan Baa in the Narrabri Shire home, Sarah’s love for music began at a young age. Inspired by the lyrically intelligent storytelling of artists like Cat Stevens, Patty Griffin and Neil Young that she grew up listening to, she began writing her own songs and playing guitar at 13-years-old.
