Today, here at Countrytown, we are excited to premiere Make Your Move from Victorian powerhouse, Kaitlyn Thomas. She was only 12 years old when ARIA nominated singer-songwriter, Beccy Cole declared to her audience, “There’s a star in the making right there” – and we couldn't agree more.

And, although the track isn't officially out until tomorrow, it’s also our Song of the Day!

Co-written with Michelle Parsons, Kaitlyn says the song is “about the state of being carried away by an unreasoned passion and tirelessly waiting for them to make the first move but eventually taking matters into our own hands by giving them an ultimatum so we can move on.”

Make Your Move is Kaitlyn’s third original single, following First Kiss (co-written with Katrina Burgoyne) and Coulda Shoulda Woulda. The idea for her newest track started out as a spontaneous moment in her kitchen.

She says, “I was making a salad and I just started singing which lead to a vocal jam - complete with kitchen utensils - singing the hook of Make Your Move at the top of my lungs. The hook quickly became an ear worm that I just had to write the song to go with it.”

The music video was produced by Benny Griggs, and recorded at Neon Horse Stanhope – a kicking licensed café and small live music venue that is a huge supporter of all things country music related.

Earlier this year, Kaitlyn performed alongside Darlinghurst and on the main stage at the inaugural Road to Roma Festival in Queensland. Previously, she performed at the famous Bluebird Café and Honky Tonk Central in Nashville in 2016, received an endorsement from Maton Guitars, supported artists such as Casey Donovan, Beccy Cole and Andrew Swift, and joined Carter and Carter on their ‘Taste of Tamworth’ tour.

Born and raised in rural Victoria, Kaitlyn began writing her own songs at 8-years-old, inspired by strong female artists like Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, The McClymonts, Abby Anderson and rock artists Anne Wilson and Pat Benatar.

She is a graduate of both the junior and senior CMAA Academy of Country Music and was awarded Australian Youth Songwriter of the Year in 2012 and again in 2018. Currently, the 20-year-old is earning a Bachelor of Music at Victorian University while running her own singing school.
