In a year that’s seen Wade Forster crowned the Toyota Star Maker, the Australian country singer and rodeo cowboy has been nominated for his first Golden Guitar Award and is set to open for Cody Johnson in Australia next year.

If his achievements in Australia weren’t enough, Forster is also making waves overseas, with the singer set to perform at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, in March 2025.

SXSW Texas has just revealed its second round of artists who will perform at next year’s event, and Forster is one of them. He’s the sole country artist from Australia to feature on the announcement.

Australian artists performing alongside Forster at SXSW 2025 are Adelaide post-punk outfit Coldwave, Perth indie rockers Joan & The Giants and alternative rock band Sly Withers, WA-based producer, songwriter and vocalist Kučka, and Melbourne emerging R&B artist Squid The Kid and singer-songwriter Stella Bridie.

In October, SXSW revealed its first batch of artists, which included Australian artists Boo Seeka, Cap Carter, Delivery, Dune Rats, Hachiku, J. Tajor, Lucy Sugerman, Rowena Wise, Sir Jude, Surely Shirley, The Vanns, and Vv Pete.

James Minor, the Vice President of the SXSW Music Festival, said of the second artist announcement: “The SXSW Music Festival lineup provides a unique opportunity to discover artists from around the world.

“The magic comes from a diverse and carefully curated program that’s designed to help you find your next favourite act. For our second reveal, we continue down that path with an abundance of inspiring musicians who will be heading to Austin next March.”

Next year’s event will take place from 10 to 15 March 2025 in music venues and community spaces across Austin, Texas.

Wade Forster is currently touring Australia on his Drifter tour. The tour follows the release of his singles Chemistry and Honky Tonk Bulldoggin’ Man.
