Upcoming Album Releases: Who & What We Know So Far

With tours cancelled and rescheduled as the world locked down for the better parts of 2020 and 2021, it’s no surprise that many artists found time to work on creating new music for forthcoming releases. Today we highlight some of our favourite female U.S. country artists – this is what we know so far.

Kelsea Ballerini

As well as writing a book of poetry, Ballerini has been hard at work on her fourth studio album and just like the album before it, it appears she’s just as excited about her new music as her fans are because she’s been teasing the release on social media. Back in April, she posted a series of snapshots from a writing retreat she took earlier this month with in-demand Nashville songwriters Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins.

Galyon wrote on her socials, “KB4 X MAGNOLIA ACRES — 3 friends. 6 new songs. 44 hours. But we'll never tell how many bottles of wine.”

Mickey Guyton

Guyton is set to release her first full-length album, Remember Her Name, on September 24. She co-wrote 15 of the project’s 16 songs, which also includes a rendition of Beyonce’s hit, If I Were A Boy, and a reprise of Guyton’s own 2015 debut single, Better Than You Left Me.

She says, “Remember Her Name is a culmination of the last ten years of my life in Nashville. This album is the closing of a chapter. All those years ago, I set out to create music that would make people feel self-empowered, loved, and comfortable with being themselves and this album holds true to all of that. I hope everyone who listens finds something that connects and speaks to them.”

Miranda Lambert

Despite dropping her Marfa Tapes collaboration album with Jack Lambert and Jon Randall, as well as a duet with Elle King in 2021, Lambert’s ninth studio album is in the works. When asked about if her next album is on the horizon in a recent interview, the singer said, “Stay tuned. It’s not far.”

The follow-up to 2019's Wildcard has been in the works for some time as Lambert admitted she’s back to her usual work pace post-quarantine, writing alongside Caylee Hammack and Lainey Wilson. She also worked with Morgan Wallen on his latest song, Thought You Should Know and on Falling Apart from Parker McCollum’s upcoming release, Gold Chain Cowboy.

Maren Morris

In March, Morris revealed that she was half way though making her third studio album, having written a handful of songs with her husband and fellow country artist, Ryan Hurd during quarantine. The forthcoming project sees her return to her Texas country roots.

She says, “My last record was very pop leaning. With this next one I’m sort of coming back to this Texas, rootsy style that I grew up in. And so, I think that it’s got a lot of Americana elements, a lot of rootsiness, it just feels like me, but a stripped-down version of me. It’s still extremely fun and energetic, so it was kind of a little bit of everything.”

Cassadee Pope

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter recently announced the title of her upcoming album, Thrive. This will be Pope’s ninth career album that blends pop-punk melodies, from the inception of her career with her band, Hey Monday, with the country storytelling that overflows from her heart.

She says, “I wanted to name the album Thrive because that word explodes with empowerment and endurance. The title track talks about not just surviving something but thriving from it, and I’m at a point in my life where I can see how the hard times were necessary. I also feel so unapologetically me in this new project which makes me thrive in every sense of the word!”
