SXSW Sydney & Countrytown Presents The Tumbalong Honky Tonk

Get ready for some two-stepping this year at SXSW Sydney! On Friday 17th October SXSW Sydney and Countrytown are throwing a massive party, for the country curious and the best part is it’s completely free to attend.

The Tumbalong Honky Tonk will kick off from 5pm at Tumbalong Park with the good times rolling on into the night. The energy will be high with live country music from Australia’s very own Max Jackson, Lewis Love and Big Wheels, plus they will be joined by Canada’s The Washboard Union who will be making their Australian debut in October. 

That’s not all, there will be line-dancing a plenty with Saddle Club taking leading the charge and teaching punters all the steps. So round up your mates and head on down to see some of the future stars of country music and enjoy a cold drink or two! 

Meet the lineup:

The Washboard Union are an award-winning trip from Canada who are known for their high octane performances with unbelievable harmonies, banjo breakdown and sing-a-long lyrics. These guys bring some serious energy and have amassed a following from around the globe.

Max Jackson is Australia’s sweetheart of country music. Arguably at the top of her game right now, Jackson has a string of chart topping hits with powerhouse vocals and an enormous stage presence. Blending traditional country with modern songwriting and sonics, Jackson’s set will be one not to miss

Lewis Love is a viral sensation that has everyone in Australian music (and the world) talking right now. His social media clips have racked up millions of views and his debut album has done the same. The mysteriousness of his creativity is part of the allure, with comparisons made to Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan he will not doubt be a fan-favourite.

Big Wheels formed in late 2021 and their golden rock and psych-twangy style is like no other. Influenced by artists like Fleetwood Mac, The Black Keys and Jefferson Airplane amongst others, their captivating live sets have taken them not just to festivals in Australia but also onto bills abroad. 

So dust off your cowboy boots, lasso your mates and head down to Tumbalong Park on Friday 17th October. A night of free, feel good fun with a whole lot of live music, line dancing and country spirit is one you can’t afford to miss!
