Riley GreenIt’s always a refreshing experience to see musicians with a sense of humour about themselves, and no more is this apparent in Riley Green’s Think As You Drunk video – the visual accompaniment to a track seemingly written about a few too many refreshing experiences.
Arriving on Friday, the video for Green’s recent single (originally released in May) is a celebration of having a few too many brews.
Directed by Wes Edwards, the clip – which was partially filmed at Green’s own Duck Blind bar in Nashville – sees Green himself defending his levels of intoxication, despite arguing with a dog, falling off of front porches, and even getting arrested while driving a ride-on lawnmower (a fitting tribute to George Jones).
As the clip comes to an end, Green finds himself back at Duck Blind, raising a glass with fellow bar patrons, as a framed portrait of Toby Keith raising a red solo cup closes out the visuals, following a sample of Keith himself saying “May not be good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was” from his 2005 single As Good As I Once Was.
The track itself is credited to Green, alongside Erik Dylan, Wyatt McCubbin, Jessi Alexander, Scott Emerick, and Keith himself, having been written in about 20 minutes, and reportedly feeling like one of Keith’s songs upon its completion.

As Green told Billboard, the musical familiarity and influence saw it being played to the management and family of the late singer, who responded positively. “They completely thought it was a tip of the cap to Toby, so they wanted to have his vocal on it,” he explained, claiming his father used to joke the original track had been written about him.
“So it’s really a full-circle moment for me to have Toby’s vocal on that song.”
A song such as Think As You Drunk should come as no surprise for fans of Green’s, especially given his exposure to rowdy and boisterous behaviour in the past.
Notably, in March, his visit to Melbourne resulted in a fan throwing a phone at the US musician, necessitating stitches after the continuation of the show. The fan responsible was removed from the venue following the incident.
Think As You Drink will appear on Green’s forthcoming album, That’s Just Me, which is scheduled to arrive on September 18th.
