A Judy Nadin portrait of multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, Lyn Bowtell has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2022 Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize for ‘A Celebration of Women of The Hunter’.
Nadin shared, “I’m thrilled to be selected as a semi-finalists in the 2022 Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize. The theme of this year's prize is 'A Celebration of Women of the Hunter' .... who better to paint than my beautiful friend Lyn Bowtell.”
She continued, “I'm going to blow Lyn's trumpet. Lyn is a nine-time Golden Guitar winner, Toyota Star Maker winner, MO award winner, 2022 Hands of Fame inductee and is the Artistic Director of the CMAA Academy of Country Music, has the voice of an angel (a naughty one) and of course, she has a golden heart. Who better to honour with a painting.”

Nadin is a graphic designer, award winning caricaturist, illustrator and portrait artist. She was named ‘Australian Cartoonist Association Caricaturist of the Year’ in 2016-2017 and 2019-2020. There are portraits of Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Paul Kelly, Mick Jagger and Robert Plant on her website with more available to purchase via her Etsy store. She has previously done work for the likes of Kasey Chambers and Beccy Cole.
The painting will be on display at Newcastle ArtSpace from October 15. The winner will be announced on October 28 at the awards dinner and prize announcement.
Originally from Queensland, Bowtell moved to Greta in the Hunter Valley in 2012. The former Toyota Star Maker winner is a multi-nominee and recipient of a total of nine Golden Guitar awards, including for collaborations with Catherine Britt, Beccy Cole, Luke O’Shea and Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart (with Kevin Bennett and Felicity Urquhart). More recently, Bowtell was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hands of Fame.
She’s released four albums to date, including her most recent, Wiser, which includes the singles I Won't Do That Again (which peaked at #24 on the Countrytown Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart), Woman To Woman, Maryanne The Optimist and the title track, Wiser with Shane Nicholson.
