Luke Combs still plans to finish his bluegrass album, which he began working on before the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the time of writing, the songs Combs wrote during those week-and-a-half sessions with Billy Strings, Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show), Molly Tuttle, and Hailey Whitters remain in the vault. However, according to a recent interview in Rolling Stone, that bluegrass album could eventually see the light of day.
“It was one of my favourite weeks of writing, and we got at least five songs,” Combs told Rolling Stone. “I will definitely finish that project, without a doubt.”
While the Where The Wild Things Are singer regularly mulls over his next musical direction, he revealed that his music won’t ever resemble Zach Bryan or Jason Isbell – despite being a fan.
“I’m never going to try to write a Zach Bryan song or a Jason Isbell song; it’s just not who I am,” Combs said. “But I’m a huge fan, and that’s why I love it. I get to go watch those people that I listen to from the side of the stage. It’s such a win.”
Rolling Stone interviewed Combs upon the launch of the Country Hall of Fame and Museum’s exhibit dedicated to the singer, Luke Combs: The Man I Am. The exhibition opened last week (11 July) and will remain open until 15 June 2025.

Combs said of the honour, “I never dreamed of being featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, much less having my own exhibit; that was beyond my wildest dreams. But honestly, it’s all a credit to my fans, family, songwriters and team.
“I have only made it to where I am today because of them, and this honour is one of my most humbling yet. At my core, I love Country Music, and this exhibit is as prestigious of an honour as it gets.”
In February 2021, Combs released a collaborative bluegrass track with Billy Strings called The Great Divide.
Combs said of the song, “Something I’ve always wanted to do is write and put out a bluegrass album. It’s not a lead single or a lead-in to that project yet, because that is not done. But it felt like the right time to put this song out.
“When we wrote it, there was a lot of crazy things going on in the world. There’s still a lot of crazy things going on in the world. And I just felt like I had some stuff to say. It’s not meant to be political. It’s not meant to try and tell you what to think or tell you how to believe. That’s not my job. It’s just a guy kinda saying the way he was feeling when he wrote it.”
