Kelsea Ballerini Shows Off New Tattoo Which May Reference Morgan Evans Divorce

Kelsea Ballerini took to social media to subtly show off her new tattoo, with fans convinced it has a meaning linked to her healing following her divorce from fellow country artist Morgan Evans.

The new tattoo looks like three mountains, a sun and two birds flying overhead, which could be a reference to her song Mountain With A View from Rolling Up The Welcome Mat. The EP and accompanying short film gives insight into their seemingly less-than-perfect marriage.

On social media, Ballerini wrote, “Here’s my healing journey. Here’s my heart. Here’s my truth. I’ve never been this open, I’ve never been this bold, and I’ve never been this proud of my art. So, with love and respect, I’m rolling up the welcome mat.” 

Broken up into chapters and released on Valentine’s Day, the first track Mountain With A View includes lyrics that refer to the demise of a relationship after marriage.

"It's 7am and I'm on a mountain with a view / I'm the only one, alone, at a table meant for two," she sings. "I'm wearin' the ring still, but I think I'm lyin' / Sometimes you forget yours / I think we're done tryin' / I realise you loved me much more at 23 / I think that this is when it's over for me."

In August 2022, Ballerini announced she and Evans were divorcing after almost five years of marriage. The country singers first met in March 2016 while co-hosting the CMC Awards and wed in December 2017 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico after a year-long engagement.

Since January, Ballerini has been linked to Outer Banks actor, Chase Stokes. The pair first sparked dating rumours after he posted a photo of them getting cosy at a college football game. They made their red carpet debut at the CMT Music Awards in April and have not been at a loss for public displays of affection, including running off stage last month to share a snog with Stokes while she was mid-way through singing Penthouse, another track inspired by her divorce.

Additionally, Ballerini admitted she suffered hair loss during her separation from Evans, dissed Evans during her Saturday Night Live debut by changing the lyrics to Blindsided (and later sold merchandise featuring the new verse which references Evans’ ballad Over For You) and recalled the exact moment she knew her marriage was over in a tell all podcast appearance. Her mother, Carla Denham, also spoke about their messy divorce on Jennifer Vickery Smith’s Got It From My Momma podcast.

Evans also responded to Ballerini’s relationship allegations. On social media, he stated, “It's really sad for me to see this person, who I spent so much of my life with, and loved with all my heart, saying things that aren't reality and that leave out what really happened. She knows I'm not the type of guy to speak on those things publicly. If this is what she needs to heal, I hope it helps.”
