Kelsea Ballerini made her Saturday Night Live debut on March 4, hosting alongside Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce

While performing Blindsided, Ballerini added a new verse to the end of the song, and its words are a direct response to Over For You, the ballad her ex-husband and fellow country music artist Morgan Evans released in September, shortly after they announced their intention to divorce after almost five years of marriage.

"Now you're singing it loud on the radio / You couldn't say it to my face / You would have searched the whole world over? / Yeah, sure, okay," Ballerini sings in the new lyrics, which come at the end of the song. "Now you're singing it loud on the radio / Like you're the only heart that breaks / You would have searched the whole world over? / Yeah, sure, okay."

The line references Evans lyrics: “How long have you been waiting to take our pictures down / How long have you been breaking, why am I just finding out / I would have searched the world all over for you / Took a flight through the night to be that shoulder for you / I would have let go if you wanted me to / How many times did you say ‘I love you’ when it wasn’t true.”

Blindsided is off Ballerini’s Rolling Up The Welcome Mat. The six-track EP was released on Valentine’s Day alongside a short film that was written and directed by Ballerini herself.

"I was writing by myself for most of the project, and it was nice to trust myself again. Most of them started with me and my guitar," Ballerini said in a statement. "The only way I've been able to handle my life since I was 12 was to write about it. Ironically, I started writing music because my parents got divorced; that was my therapy."

"Rolling Up The Welcome Mat was how I processed everything," she continued. "It's the way I got my feelings out of my body and heart and put them to music, which is the purest way I could've handled it."

Last week, Evans dropped an online docuseries centred around Over For You, as well as the ups and downs of his 2022 musical journey including bringing viewers backstage and back home where Evans grew up.
