17-year-old rising star Emmagen Rain played at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Cafe for the first time on Thursday (July 25).
Saying that she was “scratching this off the bucket list”, the Murwillumbah local had the chance to play her new song, Love Me Like A Cowboy, at the live music venue at the centre of the country music scene.
The Bluebird Cafe has been a Nashville staple for years, featuring in a range of pop culture moments, including namedrops in Bruce Springsteen’s Somewhere North Of Nashville, the Foo Fighters’ Congregation, and John Waite’s aptly-named Bluebird Cafe.
It’s also where many an artist has been discovered - including Taylor Swift, whose album, 1989, Rain said changed her life.

“1989 is the album that has had the greatest impact on me and my life. It’s the album I just have to turn up and sing at the top of my lungs whenever it plays. It evokes a strong sense of empowerment and happiness in me and feels like home. If I’m feeling down, blasting 1989 instantly cheers me up and inspires me better than anything else possibly can.
“1989 is not only my listening go-to but also such a massive inspiration in my songwriting. I always take in at least one song from this album in my co-writing sessions for a reference.
“Taylor’s lyrical imagery is beyond this world, and the catchy, fun-filled melodies are what makes this album stand out. Taylor Swift’s lyrics are so relatable, and she has such an incredible sense of knowing her audience that sometimes I feel like she’s reading my mind.”
Using inspiration from Swift, Rain wrote Love Me Like A Cowboy, her catchy new tune - which she said is about “being with someone you know you definitely shouldn’t be with.”
“Your friends are rolling their eyes and shaking their heads, but you just wanna live in the moment. Even though you know it won’t last, you’ll stay until he leaves (like a light on).”
Rain first made waves at 13 with her appearance on The Voice Australia, singing the poignant song Not Pretty Enough for its 2020 season. She released three more standalone singles that same year – City Lights Call, Love What You Find and Karaoke Song – with another string of tracks building up to her debut EP, Pretty Little Bandit, in April of last year.
