Cheeky Bathroom Ciggie Leads To Friendship For Cody Johnson & Post Malone

Country stars Cody Johnson and Post Malone are now friends, thanks to a cheeky cigarette in the bathroom during the Academy of Country Music Awards.

In an interview with Lon Helton for Country Countdown USA, Johnson explained how he and Malone met mid-ceremony.

“He snuck into the bathroom to smoke a cigarette. I walked in after him,” Johnson said.

With both artists being proud Texans, they hit it off immediately. Calling Malone a “genuine guy”, the Dirt Cheap singer continued: “We got to talking, and I think we’re gonna go hunting in October. I’m gonna guide him on a hunt in Texas.”

Johnson isn’t just planning on hunting with Malone. He’s also set to go duck hunting with Lainey Wilson’s boyfriend, Duck - and is hoping to record a song with Wilson soon.

“I’ve always wanted to do a song with Lainey Wilson. I heard Loretta Lynn’s Louisiana Woman Mississippi Man, I called Lainey and said we should record that song together, and she agreed.  But we haven’t done it yet,” he said.

This interview comes off the back of a stellar year from Johnson. Aside from his performance at the ACM Awards, he also played to over 150,000 people at Brazil’s biggest rodeo earlier this year.

“They called me, and we sold the thing out. That’s pretty cool,” Johnson said.

The second single off Johnson’s Leather album, Dirt Cheap, became his third #1 single on mainstream country radio over the weekend, and features actor and musician Red Steagall.

“He’s been a friend of mine for ten years, and a great mentor. I called him, and said, ‘I want you to star in my video. You have to play an old man who doesn’t know what’s going on.’ He says, ‘That shouldn’t be too hard.'”
