Carly Pearce Addresses Last Week’s Controversial Show Cancellation

Last week, Carly Pearce was forced to cancel her Jammin in Jeff show in Jeffersonville, Indiana, due to severe weather conditions, leaving city officials and fans unhappy with the concert being cancelled on short notice. A spokesperson also claimed that Pearce refused to go on stage early.

“As I’m sure many of you have already seen, there are inclement and severe weather forecasts for the area developing,” Pearce wrote on social media on 2 July. “The safety of my fans, my band and crew is always my number one priority. As a result, it’s become clear that performing tonight will not be possible. Please stay safe, and I can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

After the cancellation, Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore said the city asked Pearce to return the $75,000 it paid her for the performance. Moore said Pearce's team declined, citing the agreed upon contract which allows Pearce to keep the money given her cancellation was due to "an act of God."

Additionally, when asked if she would return to Jeffersonville later in the year to perform, Moore claims Pearson's team declined. 

Now, Pearce has pushed back on what her team is calling “misinformation,” clarifying that she not only cancelled the show due to inclement weather, but also returned her advance fee.

Pearce’s team issued a statement: “We are aware of some misinformation about Saturday night’s free concert in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

“The safety of Carly’s fans is always our primary concern. With lightning and heavy rain taking place throughout the day of the show, local law enforcement warned of the strong possibility of incoming inclement weather continuing into the evening.  After a complete review of the situation, the decision to cancel the show was made, primarily to not put any fans in harm’s way.    

“After this decision was made, Carly’s team was offered final payment for the show on-site, which is industry standard, but declined to accept the payment. Additionally, the advance deposit paid to Carly is in the process of being returned. This show was hosted by iHeart radio’s WAMZ-FM/Louisville and Carly was very excited to perform. She truly wishes she could have performed as planned had the weather conditions been safe for her fans, band and crew.”

Moore said he wishes Pearce "the best and I appreciate her refunding the $75,000."

Last month, Countrytown named Pearce and Chris Stapleton’s collaborative track, We Don’t Fight Anymore, as Best New Music.

Pearce said about the supersized duet, “This song embodies a place that I think, if we are honest with ourselves, we’ve all felt at some point in a relationship.

“The distance that feels heartbreaking, yet you’re also indifferent. I’ve always been a writer who never wanted to shy away from the “uncomfortable” moments in all of our lives, and this song feels too important not to share.”
