Country music fans Clinton Gee and Roth Walsh got married at this year’s Gympie Music Muster on Saturday, 29 August – their special day celebrated amongst their Muster mates.
“We could have gone to Las Vegas and had Elvis marry us,” Gee explained in a statement.
“But in the end, two or three weeks before the Muster, we went, bugger it, we’re coming to the Gympie Muster in front of our friends and getting married.”
Their simple, intimate ceremony drew plenty of media attention. ABC, Channel 7 and Channel 9 all wanted to interview the couple that decided to tie the knot at one of Australia’s most loved country music celebrations.
“No family were able to come,” Gee added. “It was all friends that we’ve always been here with. We just thought initially that’s all we wanted. We had our witnesses here. And that’s what it is: the Muster friends are our family.”
Gee has attended 22 or 23 Musters, while Walsh attended her fourth on the day of their wedding. The couple’s long-time friend, fellow country music fan, and marriage celebrant, Joanne de Rome, officiated the ceremony.
Gee and de Rome have known each other for about 20 years, while the latter previously married Roth’s daughter and her husband. “Why not make it the extra step and get married here?” Gee asked. “For us, it’s all about mateship.”
He added that the couple “couldn’t think of a better place to get married.”
This year’s Gympie Music Muster featured acts from Australia and across the globe, including Amber Lawrence, Lee Kernaghan, The Wolfe Brothers, The Davisson Brothers Band, James Johnston, Larry Fleet, Brooke McClymont and Adam Eckersley, Beccy Cole, Sara Berki, Taylor Moss, Steph Strings, Lyn Bowtell, Y.O.G.A, Kingswood, and many others.
The 2026 Gympie Music Muster ran from Thursday, 27 to Sunday, 30 August.
