Yesterday, the 2024 Golden Guitar Awards nominees landed, with acts including James Johnston, The Wolfe Brothers, Travis Collins, and the power duo Felicity Urquhart and Josh Cunningham up for the most awards.
The 2024 Golden Guitar Awards will be presented at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, with the ceremony going down on Saturday, 27 January. Taking home a Golden Guitar also means a lot to the artists nominated, as they’re the country’s longest-running music awards (starting in 1973) and help propel the careers of Australian country music artists.
To be nominated in one or numerous categories is a big deal, as evidenced by next year’s nominees’ ecstatic responses to yesterday’s news.
In an adorable post, Travis Collins shared a photo of himself and his newborn son, Everett Slate Collins, with the singer writing: “Little fella dozed off before the announcements, but I'll proudly tell him when he wakes…
"Son, dadda got SIX NOMINATIONS for the 2024 Golden Guitar Awards."
“Music is always subjective, so I try to take awards and top-ten lists, etc, with a grain of salt,” Lachlan Bryan, one-half of The Pleasures with Catherine Britt and member of The Wildes, wrote on Facebook yesterday.

“But it was really nice to wake up in Liverpool, home of one or two (objectively) great bands, to the news that The Pleasures record has received two Golden Guitar nominations. I’m really proud of this album - and I love being in this band, just like I love being in the Wildes.”
Bryan continued the post by thanking the team who have believed in The Pleasures and encouraged creative people to join two bands “because it’s the best”.
Melody Moko, Alt. Country Album Of The Year nominee for Suburban Dream added, “It’s not often you can whinge and moan and about your big feelings and people actually give you kudos. Smiling from ear to ear to be nominated for Alt. Country Album Of The Year for the 2024 Golden Guitar Awards. Proud to stand among friends and legends, and grateful to the team who made the dream.”
Zac & George, who have been making waves in Australian country music since they first performed at Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2017, have been nominated for three awards next year, and that impact isn’t lost on them.
“Thank you, James [Johnston], for asking us to be on our song with you - proud of what Some Things Never Change is about, and seeing everyone on tour screaming it out with us. Thank you to Tamworth Country Music Festival for supporting Australian Country Music, and thank you to all of YOU for supporting us and our music!”
Amber Lawrence, acknowledging her fans concerned by her lack of nominations at next year’s ceremony, assured them with her post: “Congrats to all the GG Nominees!! What a day yesterday for you all xx
“I've had a few messages from people concerned that I didn't get a nom - I wasn't eligible this year as I didn't release a new album or the required number of singles. So don't stress, but thank you for the concern. I'm still floating in my current Female Artist of the Year 2023 bubble, and I'll ride that until Jan 2024”.
