“The good thing for us is that we’re family, so we know each other really well. Though, we usually write with someone else in the room so we don’t end up breaking the band up haha.”
Homegrown Trio (Jeremy Minett)
From a cattle station in Far North Queensland to the songwriters heaven known as Nashville, Homegrown Trio siblings Katelyn, Liam, and Kasey are scripting a bold new chapter in country music. Their latest track, Hold Off Heaven, signals a pivot toward a more expansive sound, and the trio couldn’t be more excited.
“We’ve always been drawn to the melodies in pop music, and we wanted to bring some of that influence into our next batch of songs. Hold Off Heaven feels like a bit of a musical shift for us, which is super exciting. We’re really pumped for you to hear the new sound we’ve been working on,” they say.
That kind of growth feels rooted in their history and it’s impossible to overlook how much their cattle station upbringing continues to shape their work. “A lot has changed since we left the property, but we’ll always cherish that part of our story as it’s where our love for country music began. Over the years, our music has been shaped by all kinds of experiences, from moving overseas to love and heartbreak. That’s what really defines our sound.”
Their signature “blood harmony” isn't a marketing gimmick, it’s a result of years of shared experiences and a natural vocal chemistry. “Harmonizing kind of came naturally to us… luckily!!” They laughed. “Family harmonies tend to click pretty easily. We’ve put in tons of hours and work over the years, but we feel really grateful to be able to do this together as a family.”

Of course, being siblings means they also navigate creative differences. “We definitely have our moments! The good thing for us is that we’re family, so we know each other really well. Though we usually write with someone else in the room so we don’t end up breaking the band up haha! Like most siblings do, we argue sometimes. What we love is that we all bring our own creative ideas to the band which creates a cool vibe.”
They’ve even individually fallen into familiar roles in the trio’s dynamic. “Honestly, it’s no surprise that Katelyn is the responsible mum of the band. Liam’s the joker, always getting told when to show up and usually tossing some playful shade at Katelyn. Kasey’s the sassy, mysterious little sister vibe. She’s often the peacemaker but isn’t afraid to team up with Liam and tease Katelyn right back.”
Their moment on The Voice Australia was a turning point. “We’ve been really lucky to have some incredible opportunities over the years. But honestly, the real turning point for us was The Voice. Doing that show taught us a lot about ourselves and our sound, and everything since then has just felt surreal.”
From that experience the trio got the chance to work with industry legends in Nashville providing them a fresh perspective. “Such a crazy pinch‑me moment! Getting to work with legends like that was seriously a dream come true. The biggest thing we learned? You never stop growing and learning in this business. For us, working with Joy Williams on vocals and harmonies was amazing, the harmony lines almost turned into their own melodies. Liam was totally blown away watching Nathan Chapman come up with some sick bass lines, and then Dann Huff would just stroll in, grab a guitar, and drop the coolest solo.”
Creative collaboration continues to energize them, whether it’s rewriting hooks or completely transforming songs. “One session that really sticks with us is when we wrote Call It Magic with David Garcia and Lydia Vaughan. The version you hear today is actually totally different from what we started with, the original had a different hook completely, but it got changed to what you hear in the studio, the creative process is pretty cool.”
Each sibling brings their own storytelling spark, shaped by the songs that first lit that creative fire. For Liam, “I've always been drawn to the feel of a song first before diving into the lyrics. One that really stood out to me was Slow Dancing in a Burning Room by John Mayer. That song hit me on every level, the vibe and the lyrics just connected.” Lady A’s Need You Now “left a mark” on Kasey; and Katelyn just couldn’t get past The Dance by Garth Brooks “It showed me how powerful a song can be and made me fall in love with storytelling.”
The emotional DNA of the songs that first inspired them runs straight through Hold Off Heaven, their latest single. And as Homegrown Trio tells it, the writing session behind the track came with its own kind of cinematic drama.
“The day we wrote this song, Nashville was copping a wild storm. We’d never met the guys before and had driven out to Ben Stennis’s place, only to find the studio sitting 500 metres away, across a soggy stretch of lawn. Driving down would’ve wrecked the grass, so we were gearing up to hoof it through the downpour when, out of nowhere, Ben comes tearing across the paddock in his Jeep to pick us up. Total legend move. That energy set the tone, and honestly, writing with Ben and Brad Rempel felt like working with a dream team.”
When looking back over their crazy journey so far, if they could talk to their younger selves they’d say: “Enjoy the ride more and not forget to celebrate all the little wins along the way!”
Hold Off Heaven isn’t just a new single, it’s a reintroduction. And if this is the direction they’re heading, fans will want to come along for the ride.
