If you’ve been hearing the name Jake Banfield pop up on your country radio dial lately, you’re not alone. The Oklahoma native is back with another banger for Australian audiences, Lasso is a high-energy anthem that’s already got fans in the USA singing along. Now, Banfield’s hoping to be bringing that same vibe down under.
“Lasso felt like the right move because it shows a side of me people haven’t really seen yet. It’s got energy, it’s got swagger, and it’s just fun,” Banfield says. "It felt like the perfect song to kick summer off.”
With its pulsing beat and flirty lyrics, Lasso sounds like a soundtrack to a night you don’t want to end. “I pictured a hot summer night. Maybe you’re out with your crew, someone catches your eye, and the whole night shifts,” he shares. "I wanted it to feel like freedom, like chasing somebody down in the best way. I hope when people hear it, they feel alive and a little bold.”
Banfield credits Garth Brooks for first sparking his love of country, while Sam Hunt showed him how the genre could be pushed into new territory without losing its roots.
Raised in Oklahoma, Banfield grew up surrounded by country music. His music is a blend of country storytelling with modern production and has bee shaped by a diverse musical catalogue “It’s been so cool to start making my own music and representing where I came from,” he says. "I listened to everything… from Strait to Drake. So my sound pulls from all of that."

Setting Banfield apart in the desire to not chase trends, but to make music that feels right. That realness is resonating fast. Banfield’s already building momentum thanks to viral buzz, streaming success, and live performances including a massive moment at one of the world’s biggest country music events Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California. “Seeing a sea of people who just love music and were there to celebrate country music and have a good time,” he says was a career highlight.
So for his live shows? Expect energy and heart in equal measure. “I treat every show like it might be someone’s first time seeing live music. I bring the energy, the emotion, all of it. I want people leaving like, ‘Dang, I felt that.’ I want them to feel something real.”
Now, he’s hoping to bring that same experience to Australian fans in person. “Australia’s shown me a lot of love already. To play these songs in person for the people who’ve been streaming and supporting from that far away, that’d be special. I’m ready when y’all are.”
And if you’re just discovering Jake Banfield for the first time? “If you want to know me,” Banfield says, “start with Lasso for the fun and Boys Don’t Cry for the heart.”
