Front Deck Boom Box: Piper Butcher

We caught up with Newcastle singer-songwriter, Piper Butcher to find out what songs she’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.

More Piper Butcher More Piper Butcher

Newcastle singer-songwriter, Piper Butcher describes her sound as alternative Americana, and that’s perfectly showcased on her newly released second single, Before The Thunder, with its strong melodies and bluesy guitar licks that would make even John Mayer proud. The song follows her debut, Haunting Your Thoughts, which has attracted more than 37,000 streams after peaking at #3 on the iTunes alternative chart. It's also our Song of the Day!

With the alluring temperament of Stevie Nicks and a fresh alt-rock bite of Maren Morris, the CMAA Academy of Country Music graduate has supported acts such as Diesel, Glenn Shorrock, Gretta Ziller, The Black Sorrows, Richard Clapton, Thirsty Merc, Melody Moko, Josh Pyke and Tori Forsyth, and played alongside Bill Chambers, Gina Jeffreys and Lyn Bowtell to name a few.

King of The Sky - Andrew Swift

Anybody who listens to this song knows how much of an effect it can have. King of The Sky is such a fantastic song lyrically - it really gives you an emotional journey. Paired with the weeping guitars and Andrew’s husky, soaring voice, there is no choice but for me to put this song in here. Just … wow!

You Worry Me- Nathaniel Rateliff

This was the first ever recorded song I heard of his. Hooked me the minute I heard it! When I saw him at Bluesfest Byron Bay, his performance was so captivating! The energy and groove that he puts into this song alone just makes me wanna jump around and sing it at the top of my lungs.

Wheelbarrow - Kasey Chambers

It is pure brilliance! I feel as though Kasey has inspired me to really do what I want with my music; to make my own sound and be myself. This song Wheelbarrow has such a deep drive and perfectly depicts what I consider a “banga!” Hahaha!! It’s got raunchy blues guitar and grunge-y vocals which I love!

Hit The Ground Runnin’ - Keith Urban

I have been listening to Keith Urban for my entire life. And this is one of my favourite songs. This tune is from his album Defying Gravity which is what I believe to be one of his best! Many great hits but this has to top it. This song is so racy and rocky!

Solving Problems - Brent Cobb

Brent Cobb is one of the artists that I have only recently found out about. He has a very authentic sound with such a soulful, gentle voice. Solving Problems is one of my favourite songs because the song is so fluent and the lyrics are so sweet. It has a really simple storytelling vibe; which is one of his strong suits, but this song just stands out for me.
