Tyler Joe Miller (Tyler Joe Miller)
Our Song of the Day is Fighting by Tyler Joe Miller, which tackles the heavy subject of mental illness and emphasises the message of 'one day at a time' that so often becomes the mantra of many, no matter their personal and/or professional situations.
Tyler Joe says, “Fighting’s a song that’s about exposing the skeletons in your closet and the demons in your bed that everyone has, and the song is about fighting with yourself and your insecurities to overcome them and try to become a better person.”
Fighting was released on Christmas Day in 2020. The music video later followed, with Tyler Joe receiving an outpour of messages from people sharing their own personal stories and struggles.
Tyler Joe says, “Fighting quickly became less about me and my story and more about everyone else who have related to it and write themselves into it with their own struggles. The music video really helped pull back the curtain and brought out what is going on behind closed doors in people’s lives. Thank you to all of you that have and continue to reach out with your honesty and vulnerability. Keep fighting.”

He adds, “Cutting the BS and talking about real issues and struggles can be hard but glad that this song is able to help open the conversation a little bit to break the stigma. Remember, if you struggle, you’re in the majority.”
Tyler Joe is a carpenter and painted by trade, who has built his business and career owning a non-profit organisation called The Climb Outreach Society, where communities in Central and South America are provided house, emergency food funds and healthcare for newborn babies, drinking water sources and more. Currently, the organisation is working in two communities in Guatemala.
Last year, the Surrey, British Columbia born artist released his 2020 debut six-track EP, Sometimes I Don’t, But Sometimes I Do, of which Fighting features. His first singles, Pillow Talkin’ and I Wouldn’t Be Over Me Too reached #1 on Canadian county radio, making Tyler Joe the very first independent Canadian country music artist to have their first two singles achieve this prestigious goal.
By the end of 2020, Tyler was nominated for the CCMA (Canadian Country Musician Association) ‘Rising Star Award’ and took home three BCCMA (British Columbia Country Music Association) Awards including ‘Male Artist of the Year’, ‘Single of the Year’ and ‘SOCAN Songwriter of the Year.’
