Australian genre-bending powerhouse KINGSWOOD have officially entered their next era, set to release their nostalgic, country-tinged single Lovin’ A Girl on August 15. The track marks a confident return to the band's country rock roots, drawing inspiration from Americana greats while setting the tone for their upcoming album.
With over 90 million global streams, multiple ARIA certifications, and four Golden Guitar nominations to their name, KINGSWOOD have long defied genre boxes but Lovin’ A Girl leans wholeheartedly into the warm, gritty terrain of country rock.
Echoing the golden age of American songwriting, the single blends ringing guitars, layered harmonies, and vivid storytelling reminiscent of Neil Young, Gram Parsons, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
The music video follows a quirky quest for love, as two mates turn to a little magic in their search for the girl of their dreams… one they haven’t even met yet. Drenched in hazy dive bars, the pair mix turn to casting spells, and stumble through a cheeky, turbulent adventure that’s as charming as it is chaotic. Will their magical mayhem lead to true love or just more mischief? You’ll have to watch to find out.
Written on the road specifically aboard their beloved tour bus Peggy the track is as intimate as it is expansive. Guitarist Alex Laksa shares the song's emotional core:
“Lovin’ A Girl is a pondering of scenarios where after subsequent heartbreaks, I’ve always been incredibly apprehensive to delve into developing something again,” says Laksa. “So I play a game where I imagine relationships or a fantasy that plays out very quickly in my mind of what that relationship would have been like. And then it ends, and none of it actually takes place whatsoever.”

The song took shape spontaneously while the band was in Brisbane, says vocalist Fergus Linacre “We were in Brisbane sitting at the front of our tour bus, and were supposed to go out and meet up with a bunch of people,” Linacre recalls. “We started playing and just got on a roll and became really excited about the song we were writing. Then all of a sudden it was midnight, and we missed the whole reason we went to Brisbane!”
With its honest lyricism and timeless production, Lovin’ A Girl is more than a single, it’s a mission statement for KINGSWOOD’s next chapter. Their forthcoming album promises to be a full-blown country rock journey, reaffirming the band’s place among Australia’s most authentic and versatile musical storytellers.
