The Spark: Moreland’s Social Media Story

The tension began when John Moreland shared a story on Instagram, seemingly mocking Zach Bryan's $350 million record deal with Warner Records. The post featured a photo of the back of Moreland's head, accompanied by the caption, "350 M is a lot of money to pay for the f***in off-brand version of me." This was interpreted by many as a direct jab at Bryan.

The post was swiftly deleted, but not before it caught the attention of Bryan and his fans. 

Bryan's Response

Bryan did not take kindly to Moreland's post. In a pointed response, Bryan announced plans to re-release their collaborative track, Memphis; The Blues, without Moreland's contribution.

“Just saw this from an artist I’ve always respected and supported. Not trying to be dramatic but refuse to have anyone with a problem with me on my records. Replacing Memphis the Blues. If it goes down for a bit this is the reason!”

He expressed his reluctance to engage in disputes stating "Last thing I say on it! Not partial to arguing with butt hurt grown men,"

The Fallout

The fallout from this exchange has been significant. Memphis; The Blues, which was featured on Bryan's 2024 album The Great American Bar Scene, has been removed from all streaming platforms as well as YouTube.

Moreland’s response to being removed from the album was bold “As far as I’m concerned getting kicked off a Zach Bryan album, is way f***ing cooler than being on a Zach Bryan album”

I love Moreland. Opened for Moreland. I dislike ZB. This was a bad move. Moreland made more money and gained far more fans from that one song than anything else he’s put out. I’ll ride as a Moreland fan until I die, but this would be better in an internal journal. Humble is hard.
