Australian-born, Nashville-based songwriter Phil Barton is an award-winning, in-demand figure who’s taking the next steps in his music career.
Barton has signed a global publishing deal with BMG, in partnership with Liz Rose Music, marking the next phase of his career, which has produced more than 900 songs released globally.
“So excited to start this new chapter of writing with the BMG publishing family and continue my amazing relationship with Liz Rose Music,” Barton commented in a statement.
He continued, “Amy Hendon Scott was my first believer in this town, so to be reunited with her and work alongside the incredible people at BMG and Liz Rose Music is truly a dream. As an Australian Nashvillian, I never take for granted being surrounded by such an outstanding team.”
Amy Hendon Scott, Creative Director at BMG Publishing, added, “We couldn’t be happier to welcome Phil to BMG. I’ve believed in Phil since the beginning, so getting the opportunity to work together again makes this partnership especially meaningful.
“Phil is the kind of songwriter every publisher hopes to work with. His songs are honest, memorable and beautifully crafted, but just as importantly, he’s someone artists love writing with.
“He brings curiosity, consistency and an incredible work ethic to every room, and we’re proud to partner with Liz Rose Music as we help champion the next chapter of his remarkable career.”

Initially having his breakthrough by co-writing Lee Brice’s 2012 #1 hit single, A Woman Like You, which earned MusicRow’s Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year and was certified three times Platinum by the RIAA, Barton has gone on to become an essential collaborator in the country music industry.
He’s built an incredible catalogue spanning country, pop, and children’s music, penning songs recorded by artists including Sara Evans, Gabby Barrett, Dustin Lynch, Eli Young Band, Priscilla Block, Matt Stell, LOCASH, Alison Krauss, Ashley McBryde, and David Nail.
After writing the song Cowboy’s Duty, the track ended up featuring in the Oscar-nominated film Sicario. His work has earned numerous #1 and Top 10 placements across North America and his native Australia.
Before moving to the US, Barton was a member of the ARIA-nominated children’s music outfit, The Flower Pot Gang. He’s written and produced more than 80 records for the ABC Kids Music label, continuing that path when, in 2015, he nabbed the #1 Children’s iTunes song in the US with When I Grow Up, recorded by Bobby Bones and The Raging Kidiots.
Proud of his home, Barton is the music Ambassador for APRA AMCOS from Nashville.
