International drag sensation Trixie Mattel has teamed up with rising alt-country star Orville Peck for a cover of an iconic Johnny Cash song.
Weeks after hinting at its existence, international country music/drag sensation Trixie Mattel has officially released a collab with Orville Peck. Covering Johnny Cash's iconic hit 'Jackson', the two rising country stars breathe new life into the song.
Mattel does a stellar job of singing June Carter's parts, while Peck's low timbre fits perfectly into the role of Cash. Over a jangly guitar line, the pair keep the energy high and do the classic justice. Lifted from Mattel's covers EP, Full Coverage Vol 1, the drag queen also covered Lana Del Rey, Cher and The Violent Femmes.
The track's official release is also accompanied by some forthcoming visuals, set to premiere on Mattel's hugely successful YouTube channel 7am PT, April 30th - which is midnight, Saturday May 1 for us Aussies.
This release comes after Orville Peck's glorious country EP, Show Pony, released in 2020. Featuring alt-country hits like 'Summertime', 'No Glory In The West', and the Shania Twain-featuring 'Legends Never Die', the EP cemented Peck (who wears a leather, tassled mask to obscure his identity) as a serious artist to watch as he not only offers diversity into country music as an openly out and proud gay man, but a serious talent and student of the genre.

Mattel, too, has forged their own path in country music after shooting to fame due to their appearance on reality drag competition show, RuPaul's Drag Race season 7, and winning RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 3. Mattel has released three albums including 2020's Barbara, and three EPs.
