Morgan Wallen Pleads 'Conditionally Guilty' In Chair Throwing Case

Morgan Wallen appeared in court this week (12 December) and made a deal, pleading guilty after throwing a chair off the roof of Eric Church’s bar, Chief’s, in April.

The Last Night singer entered a plea of “conditionally guilty,” reducing his felony charges to misdemeanours. As part of the deal, Wallen will spend a week in a DUI education centre, followed by two years of supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a $350 fine, as well as court fees.

According to Wallen’s lawyer, the deal will “not result in a conviction” as long he doesn’t violate his agreement with the State, The Tennessean reports.

Wallen’s lawyer added that once the singer completes his probation, the charges will be eligible for “dismissal and expungement.” The lawyer noted that Wallen “cooperated fully” with authorities since the April incident. Wallen also directly communicated and apologised to those involved and “remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”

In April, Wallen was arrested after he allegedly threw a chair from the roof of Chief’s. The chair landed on the floor just three feet from where Metro Police officers were standing, with Wallen receiving three class E felony charges of reckless endangerment and a misdemeanour charge of disorderly conduct. He was granted a continuance in the case in August.

Wallen made a public apology on social media a few weeks after the incident occurred. “I didn't feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks,” he wrote. “I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I'm not proud of my behavior [sic], and I accept responsibility.”

While the case has been hanging over Wallen’s head for the last eight months, he’s enjoyed an incredible year. He won the coveted Entertainer of the Year award at the CMA Awards, and tickets for his upcoming music festival, Sand In My Boots, have sold out.
