Controversial country music star Morgan Wallen has shared a handwritten apology on his social media, announcing he’s been working on himself and will not play his upcoming scheduled concert dates, including opening for Luke Bryan on his Proud To Be Right Here tour starting in May.
This comes months after he was suspended from his label and taken off radio stations for using a racial slur.

He writes, "I've made some mistakes, I'm figuring those out, and I apologised because I was truly sorry and have been making amends. I wanted to let you guys know that I've taken a couple months away and feel like I've really worked on myself. I'm proud of the work I've put in and, in many ways, thankful to have had the time to do it. I needed this time off.”
Wallen’s note also focuses on the response to his Dangerous: The Double Album release from January. He talks about how proud he is of the album and how much he has appreciated his fans’ support during this time. The album became an instant streaming hit and spent 10 weeks at number one on Billboard’s album chart – a record for a country album.
Wallen signs off with a promise that he’d be back on the road and seeing his fans eventually. “Rest assured I am looking forward to giving you guys what you deserve, especially after all you’ve done for me. My story is far from over, and getting back out to see y’all is all I can think about. So just know you’ll be seeing me sooner than later.”
Not directly mentioned, it comes days after several billboards that have been placed around Nashville that were paid for by fans who call him their ‘Entertainer of the Year’. The note has also been met by fans online praising the Tennessee-native for his strength and courage to admit his faults and mistakes over the past years.
However, this is not the first time Wallen has needed to apologise. Back in October 2020, the 27-year-old announced - also via social media - his intentions to take a break from music when leaked video footage showed him partying too hard, cavorting maskless and flouting social distancing rules in an Alabama bar.
Wallen said, “I think I have some growing up to do. You know, I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, and, I don’t know, it’s left me with less joy. So I’m going to go try to work on that. I’m gonna take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself.”
Wallen had been booked to preform on Saturday Night Live in October, but the invitation was revoked following the controversy. After making an apology video, he was welcomed back to SNL in December.
So – it begs the question – is this just a repeat of last year where all is forgiven for Wallen after a couple of months following an apology? Should Wallen be banned permanently? Does he deserve another chance? Do you want to hear his music back on Australian radio? Let us know in the comments below.
