Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Lauren Alaina has parted ways with her long-time record label after nearly 11 years.

Alaina first signed with Mercury Records and UMG Nashville in 2011 after being named runner-up on American Idol. She later released her debut album, Wildflower, which debuted at #5 on the US Billboard 200 chart, making Alaina the youngest female artist at the time to debut that high on the chart since LeAnn Rimes’ 1996 debut album, Blue.

She went on to release two more full-length albums – Road Less Traveled (2017) and Sitting Pretty On Top of the World (2021) – as well as two EPS – Getting Good (2020) and Getting Over Him (2020). The 27-year-old has also collaborated with artists like BRELAND, Chase Rice, Brad Paisley, Dustin Lynch, Kane Brown, Chris Young, HARDY, Devin Dawson and Jon Pardi, to name a few.

Alaina shared on social media, “I want to thank the staff at Mercury Records and UMG Nashville for everything they have done for me over the last 11 years. They have been my label home since the day I walked off the American Idol stage as a really young, wide-eyed, eager 16-year-old kid. Now, at 27 years old I look back and see just how much I have changed and grown into the woman I am now.”

She continued, “I have made the tough decision to spread my wings and close a very important chapter of my life,” Alaina continued. “There are more exciting things happening in my career right now than ever before, and I just can’t wait to see where it all leads. More to share soon. With gratitude and hope, Lauren.”

In 2021, Alaina released her inspirational book, Getting Good At Being You: Learning to Love Who God Made You to Be. That same year she invited by Trisha Yearwood to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. She was inducted on February 12, 2022.

Alaina will return to American Idol on May 2 with a slew of Idol alums for the show’s 20th year birthday celebration. They include Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, Scotty McCreery, David Cook, Laine Hardy, Laci Kaye Booth, Willie Spence and Grace Kinstler, among others.

Showrunner and exec producer Megan Michaels Wolflick, said, “It’s a testament to this show’s incredible legacy that we are able to celebrate 20 years of American Idol in this extraordinary way. We are so thrilled to welcome back some of our most beloved alumni from over the years to reunite on the Idol stage. American Idol continues to create superstars just as it has done since 2002 and bringing back these Idol Icons is the perfect way to herald the next generation.”
