Kelsea Ballerini paused a recent show on her Live On Tour run across the US, telling fans she doesn’t appreciate rude chants directed towards her ex, Australian country singer Morgan Evans.
Ballerini was performing Penthouse, from her Rolling Up The Welcome Mat EP, on Sunday (23 February) at Hard Rock Live, Hollywood, when she briefly paused the show. The song, which features the lyrics: “It hurts putting sh*t in a box/ And now we don’t talk/ And it stings rolling up the welcome mat/ Knowing you got half.”
After singing that verse, Ballerini shook her head in footage captured on TikTok as fans in the audience shouted “f*ck you” towards Evans.
Pausing the performance, Ballerini made her stance clear about rude, loud chants at her shows toward her ex. “Guys, we have to stop saying that,” she said. “Seriously, we’re three years past it; everything’s fine now.”
She continued, “I sing the song for you now; it’s not about me anymore, please. Alright, for everyone that’s moving forward with their life, will you sing this with me?”

Ballerini announced her divorce from Evans in August 2022 after almost five years of marriage. The singers first met in March 2016 while co-hosting the CMC Awards and wed in December 2017 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, after a year-long engagement.
At the time, Ballerini shared that she always tried to reveal parts of her life in a “real and vulnerable way” while protecting her personal life. However, as her divorce became public record, she unveiled the news.
In 2023, she released the Rolling Up The Welcome Mat EP, which focused on her divorce from Evans.
Upon announcing a deluxe edition of the EP, Ballerini wrote on social media, “My real hope is for us to continue growing, healing, and evolving together with acceptance and kindness (even when we unleash our inner fire-breathing dragon singing the new versions of these songs). am I right?”
In October 2024, Ballerini released her fifth album, Patterns.
