On Monday (15 July), American singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress made headlines after she performed what punters believed to be a drunken rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Performing the American national anthem at any event is a big deal but at the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas? So many people saw it that Andress’s performance went viral.
Addressing the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter), Andress wrote, “I’m not gonna bullshit y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.
She continued, “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun.” She signed the note, “xo, Ingrid”.
Since sharing the statement on social media, Andress has received an outpouring of support from the country music world. Little Big Town commented on her Instagram post, “you’ve got this! Sending you love.” Maren Morris said she was thinking of the singer, and Martina McBride added, “Sending lots of love and positivity. You got this.”

Before her performance on Monday, Andress previewed her upcoming single via her mailing list to fans, Colorado 9, which she’s said is about depression.
“I had to part ways with some people who’ve helped me make a name for myself,” Andress wrote in the note (per Variety). “It sent me into what my country America calls ‘depression’ but I’m not a doctor.”
Citing the “lowest point” she’s ever been, Andress said she decided to return to where she grew up – Colorado – to return to herself again.
“Sometimes all it takes is time in your hometown to remember who you actually are, and you start to be proud of the person you’ve become,” her note continued. “I hope everyone has their own Colorado to go back to when they’re feeling lost.”
Andress’s most recent album, Good Person, was released in August 2022. She said about the LP: “Making this album was one of the most painful processes I’ve ever been through, but it was also the brightest and the best.
“The first album was me trying to discover who I was as an artist, but the last two years forced me to really sink into what my reality was and what I was feeling. It led me to what this album is, which is me realizing I wasn’t happy and that I needed to fix it.”
Earlier this year, singer Elle King came under after drunkenly stumbling through a cover of Dolly Parton’s 2001 song Marry Me.
The performance was part of Dolly Goes Opry, a show hosted by the Ryman Auditorium to honour Parton on her 78th birthday. At one point during the performance, King addressed the audience like so: “Hi, my name is Elle King, I’m fucking hammered.”
King cancelled tour dates after the incident and opened up about it on Instagram two months later.
