Charges against American country singer Conner Smith following a fatal car crash that killed a 77-year-old pedestrian have been dropped.
Last June, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department revealed that Smith – then 24 years old – had been named as the driver behind a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that allegedly failed to give way to Dorothy Dobbins as she crossed the road at a marked crosswalk.
Dobbins was taken to the nearby Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, where she later passed away.
According to the police, Smith showed “no signs of impairment” at the time of the incident.
A month later, Billboard reported that the singer had been charged with a misdemeanour traffic offence for failing to yield, which resulted in a tragedy.
The news that Smith will no longer face charges was published by People Magazine.
The singer’s attorney, Worrick G Robinson IV, told the publication: “This devastating accident was a profound tragedy for the family of Dot Dobbins and the larger Germantown community. Over the past several months, Conner has been grateful for the opportunity to get to know Dot’s family personally and be able to voice his deep and sincere grief.”
Robinson continued, “While he is grateful that this legal chapter has concluded, he will continue to steadfastly lift her family up in prayer.”
TMZ reports that the misdemeanour citation against Smith was withdrawn at the request of Dobbins’ family.

Smith issued a statement following the news that he’d been charged with a misdemeanour, where he said that “not a day has gone by” that he hadn’t “grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms Dobbins and her family.”
He added, “My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.
“I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God’s peace to surround them each day.”
Conner Smith’s debut album, Smoky Mountains, was released in January 2024.
