Brad Cox has been awarded the 2024 Golden Guitar Award for Top Selling Australian Country Album, smashing the competition with his career-defining third album Acres.
The announcement precedes this year’s full-scale Golden Guitars ceremony – scheduled to go down on Saturday January 27 as part of the 2024 Tamworth Country Music Festival – following the release of ARIA’s year-end album sale data for 2023.
Acres topped the ARIA Charts upon its release last May, a feat that Cox accomplished on the back of his hit singles Last Time Last and Single Life (both of which absolutely dominated the Countrytown Hot 50 throughout 2023). It was the year’s single highest-selling country album by an Australian artist, followed by Kingswood’s Home at #2, James Johnston’s Raised Like That at #3, Fanny Lumsden’s Hey Dawn at #4, and Travis Collins’ Any Less Anymore at #5.
The win marks Cox’s first Golden Guitar, having been nominated for nine other titles between 2019 and 2022. He’s also nominated for two further awards at this year’s ceremony: Male Artist Of The Year and Contemporary Country Album Of The Year.
In a press release, Peter Ross – an executive producer of the annual Golden Guitar Awards – said of today’s news: “The announcement of Brad Cox as the winner of the 2024 Golden Guitar Award for Top Selling Australian Country Album Of The Year is very well deserved, and just the start of what is a very exciting time for artists in the Australian country music industry as we count down to the Golden Guitar Awards later this month.”
