Ruby Jane and Jen Mize’s country bop Hoot ‘N’ Holler has been out for about a month now, and today Countrytown is exclusively premiering the accompanying music video.
The song itself is an upbeat tune about raising the roof and letting go of your inhibitions. And true to their lyrics, the Australian singer-songwriter duo have a wild day out in the video.
Filmed at Queensland’s historic Theebine Hotel, Jane and Mize join forces with Gilly’s Line Dancing to take over the bar, drinking and dancing the day away with fellow patrons.
The lyrics to Hoot ‘N’ Holler say, “Got my tattoos, cheap booze, new boots”, so of course Jane and Mize both get inked during the video as well, with Jane’s tattoo saying “yeehaw”, and Mize’s saying “howdy”.
Though Mize has garnered the nickname “Rock N’ Roll Fairy Godmother” from her younger counterpart, it was actually Jane who suggested getting tattoos for the music video. Setting up shop in Gympie’s Solid Gold Tattoo Studio, Jane and Mize get inked on camera – and try their hand at tattooing their guitarist.
Jazmyn Produces created the pink-drenched video, which you can find below.

Hoot ‘N’ Holler was written in less than two hours during The Song Muster, a songwriting workshop held annually in Gympie. Students Jessica Chate, Georgia Donachie, Briana Dinsdale, and Jayden Leslie all had a hand in writing Jane and Mize’s hit.
“That one just flew out of us, like it was meant to be,” Mize said. “It was such a spirited and joyful writing session… one of my absolute favs. We were all lucky that Ruby brought us the idea. By the end of the day the entire workshop was singing the chorus at the top of our lungs.”
This isn’t the first time Jane and Mize have teamed up, previously releasing The Sheriff’s Leaving Town and Country Song together.
